TREES PURCHASED: 1,000 | GOAL: 10,000

What is Chase Forest?

Chase Forest is a citizen-led reforestation initiative dedicated to helping restore Oregon’s forests after the devastation of the Bootleg Fire. What began as a personal commitment to plant trees has grown into a living restoration project focused on helping the land recover and ensuring that future generations inherit healthy forests.

Located in the region surrounding Klamath Falls, Chase Forest contributes to rebuilding ecosystems that were damaged by wildfire. Through partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, trees are planted in areas where they are needed most to help stabilize soil, restore wildlife habitat, and support the long-term recovery of the forest.

Today, Chase Forest includes 1,000 trees and continues to grow, with groves dedicated to honoring family, legacy, and the enduring connection between people and the land.

Why Chase Forest Exists

In 2021, the Bootleg Fire left one of the largest burn scars in Oregon history. Thousands of acres of forest were lost, leaving behind blackened land where wildlife once thrived.

Chase Forest was created as a citizen-led effort to help restore that land. Tree by tree, a new forest is being planted to help the land heal and to ensure Oregon’s forests grow back stronger for the next generation.

Restoring Oregon's Forests

Oregon’s forests are a defining part of the state’s natural heritage, supporting wildlife, protecting watersheds, and shaping the landscape that generations have called home. But in recent years, increasingly severe wildfires have left vast areas of forestland damaged or destroyed. One of the most devastating events was the Bootleg Fire, which burned hundreds of thousands of acres in southern Oregon and left behind a massive burn scar.

Reforestation helps these landscapes recover. Planting new trees stabilizes soil, restores wildlife habitat, and rebuilds the forest canopy that protects the land and the ecosystems that depend on it.

Chase Forest supports restoration efforts in the region surrounding Klamath Falls, part of the greater Klamath Basin. Through partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, trees are being planted where they are needed most to help forests return.

Every tree planted is a step toward healing the land and ensuring Oregon’s forests grow again for future generations. 🌲

Founded by Josh & Alex Chase

Chase Forest was founded by husbands Josh and Alex Chase, as a personal commitment to help restore Oregon’s forests after the devastation left by the Bootleg Fire. What began as a simple act of planting trees quickly grew into something deeper — a living expression of family history, gratitude for the land, and a promise to help Oregon’s forests grow again.

Alex, a 7th-generation Oregonian, has family story in Oregon stretches back to the earliest days of settlement. In 1846, his ancestors crossed the continent on the Oregon Trail in a covered wagon, joining the first waves of pioneers who would help build communities across the Willamette Valley and beyond. They came seeking opportunity, carrying little more than courage, determination, and the hope of building a future in the forests and valleys of the Pacific Northwest.

For generations afterward, Alex’s family worked in the logging and sawmill industries that shaped much of Oregon’s early economy. Trees were not just scenery — they were livelihood, shelter, and the foundation of communities. Forests fed families, built towns, and defined the culture of the region.

But over time, the relationship between people and forests has changed. The fires of recent years have reminded Oregonians how fragile the land can be. When the Bootleg Fire tore through southern Oregon near Klamath Falls, it left behind a massive burn scar where thriving forests once stood.

For Josh and Alex, that loss felt personal.

Each grove within Chase Forest carries meaning — honoring family members, ancestors, and the generations whose lives were shaped by the forests of Oregon. What began as a few groves has grown into a living forest restoration effort.

Because forests, like families, are meant to last for generations. 🌲
